Opportunities for BSc and MSc Students (Updated: 06/2026)

I welcome applications from motivated Bachelor’s (TFG) and Master’s (TFM) students interested in marine genomics, microbiology and bioinformatics.

Research lines

Students may undertake projects in one or more of the following research areas:

• Molecular detection and diagnosis of marine microorganisms, including the development and optimization of PCR-based methods, quantitative PCR (qPCR), environmental DNA (eDNA) approaches and molecular diagnostics.

• Marine microbiomes and host–microbe interactions, including microbial community characterization and sequencing-based analyses.

• Genomics, transcriptomics and functional annotation, with emphasis on comparative genomics, genome annotation and transcriptome analysis.

• Bioinformatics and computational biology, including sequence analysis, reproducible workflows and the application of machine learning to biological data.

Project topics are adapted to the student’s background, interests and the ongoing research activities of the group.
